What with Father’s Day and a Doodle that honored the first drive-in movie rather than a particular person, it’s been a while since Google has posted a new individual-focused Doodle in the United States. Likewise, it’s been a while since I’ve updated Speaking Up. I have lots of plans in the works, though, so here’s an update of what’s going on behind the scenes:
- I’ve updated the blog theme for a fresh look. Hopefully this will also make it easier for new visitors to find posts, pages, resources, and an explanation of what we’re all about here at Speaking Up. Let me know what you think!
- Next week, we’ll find ourselves about halfway through the year, without anything like half-and-half gender representation in Google Doodles; Doodles in the United States have featured exactly zero women thus far in 2012. Speaking Up will be taking advantage of this midpoint with a special series. I’ll be featuring special content and lots of guest posts, and will provide an up-to-date spreadsheet with statistics on Google Doodles in the U.S. and around the world. This will be a great opportunity to draw attention to this issue, and to highlight even more of the amazing contributions women make to our lives, our culture, and our understanding of the world.
